I got one of these free last year, its pretty good for free and its got a good suck about it. What stops me from using it most of the time is that it lets most of what it sucks back out into the air.

One the Axminster site they quote the Fine Filter bag for £22.85, does anyone have it and know what it is? I take it its not a metal type upper filter?

I suppose I should use plastic bottom bags too?

And then what about buying the fine filter cartridge is that is the metal top filter for £80. Eventually I'd like to plum the router table and a few other machines up to this extractor so I'd like it to not vent everything back out.

And finally, is it all worth it for this extractor??

Hi James,

That fine filter bag is probably just the same as the one that's already fitted to your machine. What you would really need for improvement is the fine filter cartridge. That would stop all the extra fine dust from escaping.

There was a thread recently buy a guy (slemishwoodcrafts?) who'd bought an extractor from Lyndhurst and found a supplier of cheap cartridge filters on eBay... I'm sure they were less than £80 each so, it may also be worth checking those out and getting the dimensions to see whether they'll fit your machine.

Is it worth it? Well, if you use this extractor to collect fine dust from a bandsaw or table saw then, yes, I think it is. :) Using plastic collections bags is also a good idea.

I have a virtually identical extractor to the AWEDE2 which was supplied like yours with 2 coarse cloth bags. I fitted the fine filter bag to the top and use plastic waste sacks below and it works very well for what it is - a chip extractor, which I use exclusively for my PT.

The bag itself is made from a sort of felt rather than a woven cloth, and is pretty efficient as a filter while still allowing good airflow. But I wouldn't think it would be much use attached to anything that made finer particles, like a router table for instance. I have an ADE1200 attached to my bandsaw and TS, which is fitted with a similar, though much denser, fine filter bag. It too stops the fine stuff pretty well but clogs quickly and needs a good shake periodically to dislodge the dust from the inside of the bag to maintain airflow, a process which tends to reveal the bags limits by producing a cloud of very fine dust that has found its way through the material.

Ideally I'd fit cartridge type filters to both machines, or build a cyclone, but cash is required for the former and space for the latter - sadly I'm bereft of both
