Making kitchen doors or buy

I have been thinking of making up my own kitchen doors because im finding it difficult to locate an old oak shaker door that was made in 2002 for my kitchen. The kitchen place where i bought the kitchen has since closed. Has anyone any tips on how to make them or is there any stores that makes them to order you could recommend that isnt to expensive. I was trying to attach a picture but finding it difficult even after resizing it.

Handy - it seems like your route for replacing the door from a supplier is now limited.

From your handle, I assume you are capable of turning your hand to such things. Making kitchen doors is not difficult, particularly Shaker style doors, probably one of the least intricate doors to build, providing you have suitable tools of course. Do you have a table saw? Or a router table with a basic set of cutters. Of course if you are only producing a single door then some basic hand tools, including a plough plane would suffice.

You will also have to consider the finish top coat, I assume lacquer? Again, easy to apply.

There are plenty of books (mainly American) available on how to build kitchen cabinets/doors if you wish to invest and don't mind buying second hand from Amazon. I have several, and to be fair very simple to follow with excellent illustrations.

Having someone build a single door for you (if you can find someone) could be quite cost prohibitive.

I have a dewalt table saw and a 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch routers but no table. Ill be putting new handles on. I have about 5 doors to be made however if could locate someone to make them instead of me, this would be the better option.

The only way I can contribute to this is to let you know how long it takes me to make a cabinet door. I don't do it for a living, but I have made a lot.
So a 700x500mm Shaker style door, finished with 3 coats of lacquer/varnish, about 4 hours if am in the mood.

The only thing you seem to be missing is a router table. Get that and you're on your way!

Would this then be the only project you would ever use a router table for?

There may kitchen door manufacturers near you? There is a company in Huntingdon, very friendly making only kitchen doors. There problem would be having them change the machining process to replicate your door. They may be worth giving a call. The company I is called Door2size. Globe Road, Huntingdon. I suspect a door could be upwards of £50 each (guessing) .

I am sure a phone call to him would give you an indication of whether or not he would take the job on. It is a small 2 man company so he may want the work.

Excellent Derek! I am capable of making them however im thinking will i now get the time to do it. Your doors are something similar to mine however the inside of mines has more of a 45degree with a very small strip included. Ill try and get pics uploaded. Finding it difficult to up load them.

Shaker doors seem to have fallen out of fashion lately, so a lot of the "must have the latest fashion" brigade are having them torn out and replaced. SO.... there's a lot advertised on Gumtree, Ebay and the like. Quite likely to find something that is at least a good enough match. That's how my "new" kitchen was kitted out with about 25 doors.
