=D> thats lovely, was the wood dry?

I was sold it as dry and ready for turning, although I've never experienced wood that ribbons when cut when it's dry before!

I bought a mixed box of apple/pear, but it all looks the same to me.

I've just started a small clock with what was labelled as pear, but I think it's the same as the wood I used for the box (I believe to be apple).

Are pear and apple that similar?

Thanks for the advice all :)

Very very nice

That's a very nice lttle box and the finish looks lovely. I'd have thought something like that would sell very well at craft fairs if the price was right. It's the sort of thing I'd buy myself to give as a gift (although now I've started wood-turning I should learn to make my own boxes for when friends get fed up of being given wooden bowls!)

Wow. That is a super box. Thin wall, sharp shapes and perfect finish. OK, so I would prefer it without the ring at the lid/body join, but would still be proud to do as well.

Thanks Dick (and everyone else!) :) I wasn't sure about putting that ring on myself, but the area here is predominently a retirement area, and so I felt that I may stand more chance of a sale if older fingers had something to grip to remove the lid.

I might do another without a ring and see which goes first ;)

Great looking box. Well done, you have got a nice looking finish. I am doing some boxes just now, not for re-sale just for fun. I have just bought the Sorby scraper, i have only spent 10mins on it so far. I will get some more practice time before i try it out on a box.

Keep up the good work, and show them to us when finished.
