Mahogany wanted for classic boat restoration

Hello, does anyone know of a quantity of Mahogany suitable for planking up the we cabin sides and wheelhouse screen frames for my 28' 6" Osborne. Kestrel motor boat. The existing timber is 19mm finished.
I can arrange collection and would be grateful for any advice. The project is based near Twickenham on the the Thames.

Any good timber merchant dealing in hardwood should be able to supply mahogany, but at a price.

I'd be contacting timber suppliers listed in the classifieds in the Classic Boat magazine and speaking to the Thames yards that do the classic boat restorations etc for recommendations. The problem is that the term 'mahogany' covers many tropical hardwoods species and presumably you will want timber that is straight grained and which over time will blend with existing.

I wonder if Keruing might be a suitable and slightly cheaper option for what you want to do? Hopefully one of the experienced folk here might have some knowledge, or ask the timber merchant!

Robbins in Bristol specialise in the marine market.

They're not cheap though.

You will almost certainly need to use a specialist marine timber supplier. For a start your timber will presumably need to be still green enough to bend and/or steam well, and you will not find un-kilned mahogany at any normal timber merchant. You could try:

I'd suggest Stones too. Speak to Tristan Stone, he's a really helpful guy.

They had a tremendous stock of all sorts of marine timbers when I visited last year and their workshop has some beautiful boats in it.

Also has Cedar, Sitka Spruce (we bought a load for aircraft work), Teak and Douglas Fir.

They shipped us 20ft lengths by a carrier with no problems at all.

John's boat works does restoration (amongst other things) on the Thames near Brentford.

He may be able to point you at a local supplier.
