Hi all

I have been asked to produce quite a large box for a customer in Hong Kong, the outer carcass will be walnut veneered and I was wanting something light but stable (due to weight and shipping cost), I had read somewhere that LDF is the one to use but was having a lot of trouble finding and was wondering if there is any other name or other sheet products that might be as good or better.

many thanks

Ian

You can get lightweight MDF this weighs approx 2/3rds what normal MDF does.

You should be able to get it from a decent panel supplier, Sonae, Finsa, Fibranova all make a similar board with names such as Superlight, Ultralight etc

Ultra light etc is lighter but as the name LDF suggests, is less dense. In my opinion its not much cop, used it once and wont again. Cant use the end grain because its not dense enough, for either sticking a liping to without needing to biscuit at least, screw into or seal it for spraying etc.

I would suggest 'Medite Premier' as the better option, weight about a third less than most the other brands while still being good and dense. Having said that ply will be lighter than even the ultra light
