Hi Wolf, sorry mate but our posts crossed. Out of the ones you have chosen I think you should find a dealer who sells SIP and Rexon and try those out, but if you want a laser my above advice still stands.

On the other hand if you are good at fettling or adapting things, you maybe able to set things up just so. But £200 is still a lot of money to waste if you end up being disappointed with your saw.

Sorry to sound so negative, but IMHO they are the facts. Hopefully someone will come along and shoot me down with advice of a model with a laser that is excellent.

Cheers

Mike

I'd strongly suggest you take a look at ebay - that hitachi i posted will be better than any of the saws you've mentioned, but leaving that aside SIP, rexon, and evo saws come up on there regularly and go for less than your budget

with regard to the laser if you really want one you can get an aftermarket attachment.

 I do not know why but I always forget the obvious ebay outlet. Maybe it's because I do not use it often. Thank's for the reminder Pete

PM of you want details of the chap who does the Hitachi saws. When I picked mine up

8" - £120 (single bevel & double mitre)
10" - £170 (double bevel & double mitre) which I bought
12" - £300 (the same one Wizer has, but it's huge!)

All appear to be in almost mint condition.

There you go Wolf a 10" Hitachi for £170 and £30 to get an after market laser. If the bloke deals in Hitachi all the time he might be able to get you a laser made for the saw.

I must admit except for a hifi years ago, I have not used any of this manufacturer's kit, but if Tom (Wizer) has bought the 12", you get bet that they are fairly good to say the least. :D

Just my own opinion, but having a 12" saw myself, if I was you I would try and do a deal for the big one.

Forgot to mention the 10" Hitachi comes with a built-in laser.

what size cut would I get on that then? Need at least 140mm, I take it that they are better than SiP and wicks professional range then

By 140mm - if you mean depth? I don't think even the 12" that Wizer has does it.

The one I have is here,

http://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-C10FSB-10 ... B00007J8CG

The measurements are in inches.

I would say the Hitachi knocks spots off the SIP\Wickes ones. It's belt driven for one - noticeably quieter than the direct driven ones.

The 10" Hitachi is very comparable to the large Bosch\Makita\Dewalt for cuts, etc.

no mate width as the deck boards are 140mm wide and you say yours had a factory fitted laser? Where did you get yours please and what sort of price did you pay please, also did you keep it with the standard disc or fit a new better (?) one?

From a chap who advertisers on Ebay - I'll PM you his details. Mine is as in the thread - 10" Hitachi, I paid £170. Although if you don't need the double bevel - the 8" one might do & he does them for £120.

He's based just outside Sheffield - but does send them out by courier all over the place.

Haven't got around to using it so can't really advice on the blade. Having said that - considering it's 1st use will be 4"x2" for the stud walling, etc. in my workshop - a fine cut is hardly necessary.

p.s. PM sent regarding the chap's details.

Maybe frowned upon by woodies, but I have a Rage Evolution SCMS which I use for outside work and taking elsewhere. I paid under £100 for it on a "Silver Wednesday" from B&Q a couple of years ago - I think Screwfix have it on offer at the moment?

May not give a Festool finish but works OK in that situation and will cope with nails!

Rod

Is it very accurate?

anyone else have an opinion on the rage stuff?, they have a double bevel one in screwfix, seems good value to me

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/29848/Pow ... e-Saw-230V

Gotta be better that a lot of stuff in that price range
