Hi guys,

Wondering if you could give me some advice on the best way to put this together, I have a room that is 510cm by 600cm that I have to fit out my computer workshop. I am getting set-up to start my own IT repair company, I have got support and funding from the Princes Trust so I only have limited funds.

I have a cousin that is in college doing Woodwork, I have asked for his help building this, although his idea has scared me a little. Below is the room that I recreated in Sweet Home 3D:

The materials I have in my head are Contiboard for the tops and CLS for the frames, finished with D shaped trimming. I have looked at other materials and decided Contiboard would be beast as customers will be able to see these worktops.

My cousin proposed that the two sides have a box then the mid section be bridged between the two. Would this work? example below:

What would you guys suggest would be the method you would use?

Thanks in advance guys, appreciate your time.

Personally I'd make the cross bracing at 90 degrees rather than 45.

On the left and right the drawing shows wood along the floor - this will stop you putting a chair under the desk

Use a cheap kitchen worktop instead of conti board it will look and feel much better. Good luck.

That's the sort of thing we have at work. We then have a laminated 25mm MDF top. However I think a kitchen work top will give a better edge than you'll get making it yourself and edging a board.

Ikea is very cheap for work tops

Thanks guys. Amazing responses, I really appreciate your time.

Ikea do have really cheap worktops, I found one there at £30 for 2200mm. Although the Contiboard is cheaper, it may be worth spending more on the worktop for the strength.

I also had a look on eBay for those breakfast bar legs that where mentioned and found ones for £6.

I think I will suggest just building a frame at the back and using the breakfast bar legs. Strange as it may seem, I am afraid to drill any holes in the wall. Don't want the landlord chasing me for repairs if it don't work out for me.

Thanks again guys.
