I have noticed that the iron tends to shift a bit during long sessions on the shooting board, when the work is off blade centre. Easy to forget to check! The actual adjustment seems more easily done with a screwdriver just behind the mouth, there's little leeway at the rear of the body. However the setting can creep, even if you (over) tighten the centre bolt to the point where the lever cap can't be undone.

Has anyone drilled and tapped a No 9 to take grub screws to control lateral position, as LV do on some planes?

Had my plane for a few years and never experienced this problem, possibly your cap iron is not tight?

Well, maybe Tony, but I have tightened the lever cap retaining bolt (after setting lever cap), to point that lever cap won't undo, as mentioned above. Maybe the cam profile of the lever doesn't permit very secure locking down - will have a lokk at this tomorrow. Regarding continuous work mentioned, I spent most of this pm shooting 5mm solid matching edging on veneered mdf parts, and it moved again.
