I was asked by the Lady Secretary of our golf club if I could make something to help when making the draw for partners in their competitions.

At present they write numbers on bits of paper and pull them out of a box.

"Anything would be better than that" she said.

Having some scraps of wood about this is what I made.

I've told them I don't mind doing the woodwork but making the bag for the counters is their job.

Oh yes and when the draw is made for partners in the mixed competitions I want a good partner.

Nice work Alan - particularly like the lettering.

Got me thinking - last (and only) time me and SWMBO were in Porthmadog was when we spent a week camping along the coast of Wales (from St Davids), then decided to have another few days off work and go to Anglesey.

Cheers

Karl

Mailee asked
How did you do the lettering on the lid?

Hello Mailee, I am fortunate enough to have a Gravograph IM3 engraving machine. Picked it up for a song. Not really meant for engraving on timber but seems to work OK if you take your time. I also did the counters with it.

This is a good functional box and I like the engraving on the lid...very smart. If I'm wearing my piccy hat the only thing I would change is the screws for some decent brass slotted ones. Nice job - Rob

Very smart indeed.

What species is that - is it mahogany of some kind (ie. sapele)?

Do the men have anything like it?

The mens section put up a timesheet and you just add your name to it. There are only a few competitions where there is a draw made. eg Captains day.

what are the dimensions.
9 1/2 x 5 x 2". I haven't gone metric yet

I have no idea. I know the insert is a very red mahogany and the dividers are oak but as for the box I don't know. It was part of the leg of a garden bench :D

Looking now at the photo's Rob you are dead right. Wish I had done that now.

Thank you for your comments.
