Goerge I thought that would be the answer all I have to do now is keep practising and get the hole small enough withought damaging it and having to enlarge it.

Pete I have seen them with the inside stained but I dont like them like that but it might be an option.

a little trick which i sometimes do john is leave a ring of wood around the hollowing hole which is slightly too thick then just as i'm nearly finished gently turn it away- but be careful the piece will be fragile if it is wet and thin.

heres the sort of thing which could be done with thread chasing and mark's sort of pieces- this piece is from jan 2005- cherry and african blackwwod

Great post George

Great work as usual. I must take some more lessons from you some time with regards to this turning once malarky as you seem to have it off to a T.

Take care

M

lessons from me  I doubt that theres many diffrences between or work really. I did wonder about you thread chasing that way you could have a threaded lid on your vessels.

Hi George

It must take quite some time though ow to learn how the wood will or will not warp and how to align the grain to achieve this. With mine seeing I put lids on I can just turn away any warping.

I have thought of threading but I like the way that my forms are flowing and the finials flow, hopefully with the forms. I am concerned that threading may be a bit mechanical against the forms.

Also I like the fact that people can quickly lift the lids to look inside ( I might put a smiley face inside) . With a screw top they may think ( unless they have been told) that it is glued.

But I may one day.

Hope your well.

Mark

the wood has to be dry mark- you cant thread chase with wet wood due to warping- it doesnt take to long to learn- i could teach you in a morning- its just a bit of pratice and counting elephants

stunning as usual george, i have seen the weapons you use to hollow out the big stuff, but what tools do you use to hollow out the box?

thanks steve-just a spindle gouge on its side.

hmm, i actually tried this yesterday, had a bad catch and nearly ripped the top off it, must have held it wrongly, and thanks for the info.

Hi George
Been a bit busy lately but catching up now. Love the vase and the box. I can do the threads, just need to practise the hollow forms! Don;t hold your breath though!
Cheers Dave

excellent George. Now that I am the proud owner of this vase it makes the thread and vase even more interesting as I now know the whole process.

Cheers matey
