I am going to make a two drawer cabinet with long legs tied in with cross members between the legs near the base.
I inherited some aframosia planks and have purchased some ash for the legs.
My question is I can't decide if I should just leave it with just the legs in ash, or make the drawer frames also in ash with the drawer front infills and the top, out of the planks of afrimosia.
I want the cabinet to look aesthetically pleasing, but I am afraid of overdoing the'black and white' thing.
The legs have to be ash.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, from a design stand point, so the finished piece will look balanced.

Thanks
Mike

sorry Mr t but I am unable to do that.....
It,s full size on a roll of wall paper!!!!
But it is just a traditional build with raised panel sides.

Which do you prefer? I know which of the two generalised looks I find more attractive, but what I like isn't necessarily what you and whoever has to live with it likes.

My suggestion is go with something closer to the left hand image rather than the right hand one. The left one uses a light coloured wood to highlight and frame the red/brown wood and looks unified. At right, the zones are not clearly defined and the overall look is disunited and patchy.

Now you have to decide. Slainte.

Thank's for pointing me in that direction...I have to be honest I never considered colouring it in!!!!
It just goes to show that what I had in my mind to look acceptable, is not the effect I want when it's put down on paper and coloured in.
I will have a play about with your concept and see what I can come up with, and post the finished item.
It also opens up how important design is when making stuff?
If there were courses to explain perspective, timber choice, weight vers size..things that in general we take for granted, it would be well worth attending.

Thanks once again

Mike
