Lie Nielsen o1 chisels

I see that Lie Nielsen by popular demand now have their chisels and blades available in o1 (normal ) steel as well as the dreaded a2. Should think it will make their products more popular than ever , I would certainly be more likely to consider them now.

I know its currently de rigeur to decry A2 as a load of crap, but I've been happy with all of my A2 tools. You may need to play around with bevel angles to get the steel to perform, but isn't that the case with all steel?

I'm not knocking A2 as I'm sure lots of people have genuine reason to prefer it, but from a personal viewpoint give me O1 anyday

May I ask why you prefer O1 steel? What does it bring that A2 doesnt?

The only experience I have of A2 is a couple of spokeshaves and lie nielsen plane. The rest of my tools are a mixture of record and clifton planes and older marples chisels which Ive had 30 years of sharpening so maybe its a case of old dogs and new tricks but I prefer sharpening the cliftons to the lie nielsen and feel I get a sharper edge

O1 steel will hold a finer edge at honing angles less than 30deg whereas A2 needs to be a tad higher at around 32deg to get a good edge - Rob
