I've poped some of the above on my cast iron beds and, to be honest, I'm not that impressed. The tops aren't much better than before! I used a new dispoable foam brush to apply and left to dry for one day.

Any other experiences?

I tried it a few years ago was not impressed and went back to a candle on the bed of my thickensser, this cheap and works very well.

I have tried the stuff from Wurth which was ok but again for the money a candle was better.

Don't put wax on the bed of your surface planer though as it can stop the glue from taking when you are jointing panels and tops.

I think it's ok but haven't used anything else so can't really claim to be an expert - i usually polish it after a minute or so and it seems quite slippery enough after that

it also seems to work quite well as a rust proofer over winter if you slap plenty on before it gets damp and then don't use your tools much - which I don't in winter as its too cold in my garage

I wanted rennaisance wax as recommended by the wood whisperer (got a lot of time for that guy) but couldn't find any

I use it without any problems - give all my cast iron a good coating in Autumn ready for the winter.
Renaissance Wax is available here but more expensive - I think WH sells it though I bought mine a few years back by Googling RW?

I have and use the Luberon and find it quite effective at protecting surfaces, on cast iron saw table I do buff up after solvent has dissipated.

If I'm in my other shed and can't be bothered to fetch it I use Micro Crystalline Wax which seems just as effective, although somewhat more expensive if not used with care but needs a very much reduced application to get cover.

(Micro Crystalline wax should be available from any stockists of Chestnuts products.)

Rennaisance wax is easily available, I got some from ebay (came from somewhere in London if I remember correctly) 200ml was about £12 I think.
It is great stuff I have used it on my bandsaws cast iron table and it has kept it in perfect condition since, I also use it on planes and other stuff, and general polishing tasks.

Ollie.
