Yes, I found out about this last night - it's not a great surprise (the guy was in his mid-90s!) but still very sad.

He was not just a guitar innovator either - he introduced multitrack recording and tape echo to the rest of as well. And was a fantastic writer/performer. He's left a truly huge legacy behind.
