If anyone wants to get away from wall-to-wall football and listen to the Le Mans 24 Hour motor race, which starts tomorrow, you can listen to Radio Le Mans on the internet at http://www.radiolemans.com/

Should be an interesting race this year. Two Audi R10 diesels are on the front row

My wife and I have been to the race twice before. At one point, after watching one of the teams change all four disk pads, all four wheels and re-fuel in about 8 minutes, she turned to me and said "How come when I have my car serviced, they want it all day?" :? :?

Result:

1st Audi (diesel)
2nd Pescarolo Judd (petrol)
3rd Audi (diesel)

That's got to be one of the most significant advances in engine design and development in recent years. It wasn't long ago that diesels were only good for lorries, buses and taxis. Now they can beat the best petrol engines in the most demanding endurance race in the World, at speeds of up to 195 mph over 380 laps in 24 hours.

Cool, really cool 8) 8) 8)

They were particulalry suited to this type of event as high torque and low (comparably) fuel consumption are very advantageous in endurance racing.

Don't expect to see an F1 diesel in the near future :)

Cheers

I don't - most of the F1 teams have trouble making a petrol engine that doesn't explode within an hour
