But it's not up to you to say that; if Blister had said that in the first place instead of challenging my capability, then I would have accepted that I had partially high jacked his thread and no more would have been said. I take it that the point you are trying to make is that I have devalued the sale because I seem to be criticising the product - how very weird an attitude is all I can say.

And to use the word 'objectionable' is highly emotive as was 'clumsy' etc. My post was almost a musing - "I've made a design mistake - but interesting other panels have the same layout"

I am now looking as to how I refer this to the moderators. If there is a rule about high jacking in any form then everyone must be abided by it - there are many posts here which drift off subject and gain by doing so. It never occurred to me that my musing would be found to unacceptable.

I'd just like to chip in to ask people to let this slide, as arguing on the internet is like winning.... (fill in the gaps, i'm sure you've seen the relevant pic!).
As a potential buyer i have to say this does little for the thread's appeal or the forum's friendly vibe!

I'd also say it's generally bad form to make a negative comment about an item for sale.

To answer some of Blister's questions for him (i've researched a bit, and he was helpful with my questions!) ...
I believe yes it has a 450mm max spindle length, does around 18" over the bed, is 1 1/4" x 8tpi thread, and could maybe be extended, but would need new legs/bench for the extention (not sure if a kit is available from woodfast). Apologies for any inaccuracies.

If you go back and re-read my seemingly offensive posting, you will see that it is in fact a musing - I've made a mistake, but look others have done it too

However I am now quite happy to say that from a safety design engineer's POV, this is a hazardous configuration and, yes, I'm quite content with criticising it.

Thanks Oakbear

But it look like it will go on and on

Update on details

1 What is the thread size of the mandrel? M30x3.5
2 max length between centers? 450mm
3 Max diameter over the bed? 460mm
4 Is it possible to bolt an extension onto the bed? cant see any mention of a extension table

hope this helps i some way

Please be aware of the forward and reverse toggle switches , As a hazard has been pointed out by a forum member , It appears you can switch it on in reverse when not looking at the controls ( although it has not happened to me on any of my lathers with this type of controls as I look at the controls before operating the lathe )

I'm sure you'll be very happy with it Aled. I loved my larger MAXI2. Very solid lathes. Just make sure you look at the control box when using it

BTW Aled, book arrived this morning. Thanks very much.

Just to close the thread nicely, I met up with Blister yesterday to pick up the lathe. Needless to say he was a joy to deal with, and

I've not had a chance to clear a space for it in the workshop yet, so it's still sat in the back of the car   .

My first impressions though, are that its bloody lovely :D :D Nice and solid with good quality, hefty castings.

I hope to get some time tomorrow to set the lathe up, so I'll post some pics in the next couple of days.

Cheers

Aled
