I finally did it. Ever since I bought my Sedgwick 12" Planer/thicknesser, I have been rolling it back and forth on three lengths of broomstale (Staile?)

I finally got rid of that lash-up.

I just replaced them with:

three lengths of galvo conduit! :D

And they don't work anywhere near as well!

PLEASE! Is there anyone in the West Mids area who can weld, so I can get some angle iron, and make a trolley?
John

Cheers Bob.

However, I'm not sure that would take the weight. (350kg.) It's a 12" industrial cast-iron machine!

I have some rated castors that will take the weight. If the trolley would stand it, that might work. Need to get the planer to the other side of the shop, so I can tuck it under the stairwell when not in use. So castors are the only way to go really. At the mo, all I can do is move the planer along about 4 feet either way.

I'll have a look at the links!

Thanks again.

Here are John http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp? ... =1&jump=44 I have my Jet planer on this one and at 540kg it will take your Sedgwick with no problem.

The only downside is the price.

Cheers

Mike

Thanks Mike and Martin,

It looks as if that might do the trick. All I shall need then is some chain and an engine hoist to lift the machine onto the trolley!

I'll take a trip to my nearest Axminster, and have a look see. The car could do with a run out!

John :D

I have a sedgwick planer that I have mounted on castors that works a treat. I found some wedging and levering with 2 by 4s made lifting and fitting the castors fairly straightforward. Its not to bad if you can get one end up.
After that it just repeating and blocking up.

Thanks Owen.

The castors I have are about 6" high overall, and I felt that was bit too high. I could build a platform to stand on of course, to retain the working level, but that's more clutter underfoot!

There's a lug sticking out from each corner of the machine base. I was going to put some heavy chain between those and lift each end in turn with a trolley jack. If one of these frames from Axminster is strong enough, I'll find a way of fitting the castors to that and slide it under somehow!

Cheers
John :)

Benchwayze, i am in the Birmingham area and have welded for a living....pm me if you still require help.

These any good John?

http://www.axminster.co.uk/recno/12/pro ... 364881.htm £36.45

or

Almost certainly the same thing
http://www.rutlands.co.uk/machinery-&-a ... obile-base for £29.95

I have the axi one on my Xcaliber table saw and the only thing that would improve it would be 4 castoring wheels. As supplied is has two fixed axle and two castoring wheels so I added a second set of castoring wheels.

Bob
Hi Bob, where did you get your second set of castoring wheels from as I will be having a used jet table saw on Sat with mobile base and would like to replace the fixed wheels. Thanks Malc.

They were home made ones Malc.

Some details here.

https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/post ... tml#196746

The extra castors for the AXI base were almost the same but bolt on instead of welded on as the photos show. Further down the post I give the website address for the castors themselves.
Additionally, I had to made two extra support feet to level the saw when the castors are raised. If you want some photos then I can take some.

I'm not sure if I can lay my hands on the drawings and the cam profile details after all this time but if you are wanting to go ahead with making your own extra units, then let me know and I'll fire up the PC I was using then and search for the drawings.

Bob
