I need to replace a rotting door frame (external) which sits within a damp wall and will be very prone to rot. I was therefore thinking that accoya would be a good choice. The size of the side jambs will require laminating two pieces of accoya together and this got me wondering about laminating a hardwood to accoya, with the potential aim of having accoya on the external part of the jamb, in contact with the damp wall, and using a hardwood on the internal part what would better withstand dending in a high-traffic area. The thickness of the jambs is in the 4-5" region.
I vaguely remember reading about some attempts to laminate accoya to other woods, both successfully and unsuccessfully. Obviously the main concern would be differential wood movement. Might stress relief cuts help? Does anyone have any experience with this? All thoughts would be much appreciated.
