Hi folks,

I know it's a long shot but here goes anyway!

I have an old Lamello Top 10 biscuit jointer. It's a great bit of kit but I'm missing the try square add on fence for it that you fix to the sliding angle fence. I've not needed one until recently and now I'm stumped. I know this is against all odds but I wondered if anyone on the forum had one that they didn't need or was willing to part with for a fair price? I also wondered if anyone with experience of these machines knows if the part from another machine (Trend, Makita, etc.) might fit? Apparently the later Lamello fences won't fit (and they are eye wateringly expensive anyway).

Like I say - I know it's a long shot but worth trying I suppose!

Thanks for reading!

Lamello list spares for nearly every machine . if you get stuck then also look at wzservice.de which is Hans Sauer the most comprehensive spares dealer I know of

Thanks Shrubby. I've been onto Lamello but they no longer have that part. I will try your other supplier though. Thanks for the heads up.

@memzey: I live literally 10 mins drive away from the Lamello factory. If you send me a Part No (or a photo if not) I'll happily go there for you and ask.

Please note that for the next few days I'm on and off to the hospital so it would be Friday at the earliest when I can go, if not next Monday.

If interested we can do this by PM or on the open Forum, as you prefer.

Cheers

Thanks for the link memzey. I've printed out page 10 (and the front page) and will take them with me when I go to Bubendorf.

I'm not at all familiar with these machines and notice from the front page that the manual apparently covers loads of machines, so could you tell me your machine's exact type & model number please. It probably doesn't make any difference but when I go there it'll mean I have all the info (so at least I can try to look intelligent for them).

I'll try to go there Friday or Monday next and will let you know what happens.

Cheers

A long shot but if they no longer make that part, or keep any stock, ask them if you could have a dimensioned drawing of it.

Cheers AES. You are a legend! The model is Top 10 Biscuit Joiner. Hope it all goes well with you at the hospital.

Thanks for the "legend" memzey, let's wait n see what results (if any) I produce before we shout too loud - as said, Bubendorf is literally the next village from me, over the other side of the hill, 10 mins, so it's no big deal to go there (go there quite often for shopping anyway - nah, Coop, NOT Lamello!).

I've noted mind-the-goat's suggestion about a dimensioned drawing - good idea if all else fails.

Thanks for the wishes re hospital.

Will advise after my visit to Lamello.

Hullo memzey,

My hospital appointment this morning was early. As my 2nd appointment wasn’t until midday I decided I would probably have enough time to get to Bubendorf & back before midday, and so it turned out.

What a delight those people/that company Lamello turned out to be!

A very helpful and friendly young lady in their general office cum reception soon found the 1st part (although no longer officially stocked – “that Top 10 machine really is very old now, last made in 1998”), and went on to explain the other part was definitely not available. More or less as I’d hoped, an obviously senior gent overheard this and asked what I needed – “Ah, I think I’ve got one of those hanging around in my office, wait a minute please” and sure enough he came back a short while later carrying your Try Square (Part No. 11).

Better yet, they insisted that as it was old stock they couldn’t charge new prices, and (of course) not being equipped to deal with cash (or plastic) customers direct, instead of the 32.40 Swiss Francs initially calculated they knocked off 2% because I was paying “cash” (i.e. within 10 days) - so now down to 31.75. And then because no one had any change, they knocked the price down to 31.00 flat (which was all the small change I had on me). They then insisted I take a free English language catalogue for you as well.

If you read a couple of recent posts I made in the Scroll Saw section, I found dealing with Lamello was such a pleasant change in comparison with all the hassles I had with the maker & dealer of my brand-new Excalibur Scroll Saw, so as a “Swiss-Brit” myself, I hope you and anyone else reading this will choose Lamello over the competition in future. Their approach to business seems to me not only beyond reproach but way above today’s typical business norm.

As an added bonus, on my way through the country lanes away from Lamello, a very curvaceous young red head was out for a jogging session. No doubt due to the current heat wave (we had 36 here today) she had decided to dispense with a sports bra. But that all nearly ended in tragedy as I was so captivated by the sight that I almost rammed a tree!

Anyway ……

I’ll pack your parts (and Catalogue) up tonight and should be able to get them in the post to you tomorrow, or Saturday morning latest. In the meantime please PM me with your name & address for the parcel.

Once it is sent I’ll PM you back with the total cost (31.00 Swiss Francs for the parts plus whatever the post costs, I guess about 15 to 20). I’ll also PM you with my bank details.

FYI, based on previous experience, post transit time to UK will be about 5 to 7 days, and total cost somewhere around 35 quid (Swiss Francs 51) as a guess.

P.S.

Re your earlier reference to “legend”:
Someone once told me that a leg-end is the end of a leg. At one end of my leg is a foot, at the other end is an orifice. I wonder which you meant?

No pictures it didn't happen!

@kostello:

"Oh ye of little faith"! Cor blimey mate, I now have to grovel around for my mobile phone as well as view the landscape? That really would have been dangerous.

But just BTW, she COULD have been a blonde - I really didn't spend all that much time with my eyes up at that level.

:D

Just to close the loop on this and definitively cement AES' legend status (NOT leg - end) - this morning in the post I received an extremely thoughtfully packaged parcel with the fence and locking assembly inside. The machine itself may be 20 odd years old and the part new but they fitted each other perfectly. Another plus for the quality of Lamello's Swiss engineering. Like clockwork one might say. And as for AES - absolute top man. Nothing more to say apart from I hope that one day I can repay the favour and thanks again!

Thanks for your post memzey. It turned out to be a quick & simple errand for me, and so many people on this Forum have helped me in so many ways that I was pleased to be able to return the favour for once.

Hope the Lamello machine runs for another 20 years.
