Kreg K4 Pocket hole kit

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if this requires "dedicated" Kreg screws or can any screws be used ?

I have used posidrive, coarse screws, but I happened to have a few hundred ally washers of the right size to use with them. If you are going to use drywall screws, make sure they are longer, and make your pilot hole shorter, so they have something to bed down into. This means eye-balling and checking you have screws that suit the thickness of timber you're working with. In the end though I decided it was too much hassle, and I do a bit of surfing before I top up with screws. Prices vary quite a bit.

The kind of work I use the Kreg for is for 'utility-projects' and I standardise timber thicknesses. So I find I use only three types/sizes of screw. I don't build a project entirely with the Kreg jig. You can do of course, but here and there I use a real-joint, or a maybe a biscuit with the screws. I think the reason Kreg screws work best is the square drive. It doesn't slip so easily. If necessary you can use a Leigh Jig adjusting driver to cinch down the screws. If you have a Leigh Jig of course!

I use Kreg screws, simply for ease. I get mine from Workshop Heaven, as they stock the lot, at decent prices.
They do the fine thread for hard woods, too.

The newer stock they sell are the Pozi-square hybrid type.
