Hello im looking around to buy an old combi/universal machine and have come across a kity bestcombi from 1992 which seems in good condition and it is at £600 wondering if this i too much or a reasonable offer?

Hi des and welcome to the forum - I think that £600 is a trifle on the high side for a machine made in 1992, better and cheaper alternatives around if you nose about a little :D - Rob

I don't think age dictates price unless there are any specific technical specs you are looking for such as may appear when a machine is upgraded in some way. If it's in bloody good nick having had light use by a careful owner, sounds to me like a contender (particulalry if the owner would accept a bit of haggling).

Does it have the morticer attachment, any extension table/sliding table or other accessories?. If it's in very good nick it's gotta be worth £500 surely?.

After all where else can you get a decent quality planer/thicknesser, a saw and a spindle moulder, each with it's own 2hp motor for less?.

A new one is upwards of £1900. Secondhands ones can fetch over a grand. Go for it!

I had a Bestcombi around that time. Even back then, spares and tooling was a hit and miss afair. I damaged a mitre bar within a few weeks of getting the machine, and it took six months to get a replacement. It would be helpful to know the model, but IIRC that would still be pre the 2000 model so the tables are on three levels and run on a single motor belt changing system. I think the price is high given age and original sales price. But of course, it all depends on what is included, and whether the machine is complete. Kity were taken over, were the spares for older machines carried forward by the new company (I believe Sheppach).

Hi thanks for the help guys ive been told that parts are hard to come by for this kind of machine considering its age so £600 is a high price, just gotta keep my eye out for other used machines

Ah!.. I didn't realise the earlier models were single motor. I played with a 2000 model which I thought was quite well thought out (at least for a combi-machine). Only one motor is a big minus point.
