My wife has been telling me for several years that my hearing is cr*p but I always replied that I was normal and hers was superhuman. I did though know that she was right and my left ear was the worst, so looked into it, including with Hidden Hearing and Specsavers without actually getting a test done. They quoted in the region of £1800 for a pair of so called invisible in ear aids.
Being a skinflint, I bought an identical looking in ear digital aid from China via Aliexpress, stuck it in, adjusted the volume, and can now watch television with the sound level set at 14 instead of 24. The cost? £24.30 including delivery.

My ears are only normal too so I'll soon have to surrender and follow your example. But cant you get these things on the NHS?

I didn't even consider the NHS because I assumed they gave you those huge lumps of pink plastic which you stuck behind your ear.

You can get hearing aids on the NHS. All you need do is phone them up and arrange a test. I had some years ago but unfortunately they have stopped prescribing the inner ear aids. Instead they issue the ones that have the controls behind the ear. The cheaper ones that you can buy are only volume controllers, not the type you cabn vary the background so that you can manage crowd sounds. Thety may do, up to a point, but it's rather like taking asprin for whatever ails you.

Maybe it depends where you live. My dad has invisible ones free from the NHS. He lives in Scotland.

Mind you if I sold £23 hearing aids for £1800 I would be delighted to spread rumours about the hideous bricks the NHS will bolt to the side of your head for free. And if I was a cash strapped NHS manager I mightn't be too keen to set the record straight. So maybe they are free everywhere but no-one is keen to tell us.

Someone will know....

How did you get on with Alixpress?

I had always thought those Chinese sites like Alixpress and Alibaba were really dodgy?

I think Alibaba is for business to business

Tried that, no answer.
[Sorry, couldn't help myself  ]

Re. Aliexpress, I've used them in the past, bought some Bismuth for levitation experiments, cheaper to buy the small quantity I wanted from China than anywhere else! Didn't have any problems except a bit of email marketing afterwards, which is fairly standard these days.

There was a very interesting serial on R4 this week written by a lady who started to go deaf at the age of 28. It is well worth finding on the Radio Player. Very interesting story and a good outcome, eventually.
My ears are one of the few parts of my body which work properly. Don't get me started on eyes...

I have behind the ear digital hearing aids that have a nearly invisible tube to the ear with a parachute shaped flexible bit of plastic in the ear. The behind the ear type usually have the advantage of allowing the inner ear to breath. Many of the invisible inner ear type seal the ear which can cause problems. I got them many years ago and they were expensive, don't wear them to often these days as my wife is the only one I have difficulty hearing.

Never had a problem with them and I have used the site many times. I once bought a sim free telephone which took rather a long time to arrive. When I contacted the supplier they immediately sent out another just asking that I inform them if the original phone turned up.
I recently bought one of these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1pc-10- ... 0.0.S6CX6d.
A similar drill, or one which does the same job, is sold by a luthier supplier for £67.

These are the type supplied by the NHS and they are free, even the batteries are free.

I only found out from a friend when discussing whether I should use Specsavers or Boots and he recommended the NHS. I saved about 17-1800. :D :D
