I was given three very narrow spindles of lignum vitae, about 6mm thick, didn't know what to do with them so had a play and made this trembleur. It's 46" long not including the bird thing stuck on top. As I said just a bit if fun seeing how thin I could go. The thinnest parts are about 2mm thick the widest are 6mm. Base is a scrap bit of yew and the weight on top is ebonised hawthorn. Mostly done with a skew working with the spindle inside the head held close to the working point.

Sorry about the photos, I took about a dozen trying to get a decent photo but failed, hopefully you can still see enough to get the idea. There is a small hollow ball between two sections and a captive ring on there made with a dental pick

he's ( or she possibly ? ) great ! ... tricky to do so 'Long & thin' , I would imagine .. but definately worth the effort and great to see !

Pete, that's completely bonkers but I love it! You must have tons of patience for that.

You've some patience Pete, and obviously some skill and nerve with the skew.

Very well done !

Thanks guys, just a bit of fun in between seam rippers, crochet hooks and other boring things. Biggest problem is moving it, it wobbles all over the place every time you try and move it
