Again, you've found some very nicely coloured and figured timber, and given it new life - excellent work :D

Andrew

Again some beautiful work. Could you put sizes up as well? I suspect that if I tried anything that size my bearings would completely give up the ghost.

What wood is the hollow form?

Pete

Hi George,

some nice pieces there. I started a piece like in your previous post but quickly discovered the lathe in it's current state won't cope with it (Axminster M900). Today I pulled out some timber to start making a proper bench for the lathe. This will be very very heavy to help minimize the bouncing of the lathe.

Can't see myself ever being able to afford a vb36 but maybe one day I'll manage something better than the axminster lathe.

Dave

George, I'm personally not one for hollow forms as is obvious from my limited range output but your rendering of that piece of Walnut I would gladly find room for.
The projection of the hidden forms in the grain structure which you have exposed with a relatively simple flowing shape are exceptional.

Very very nice george :D
That Walnut piece is stunning.
Love the shape, and the grain on it is superb.
Was this wood stored as per your Beech :?:

just scale it down dave- big isnt always most beautifull :)

Of course I hadn't really thought of that George...until last night. Maybe I'll have a go with a smaller piece tonight. I've got a number of larger pieces round the workshop which haven't been finished due to too much vibration on the lathe.

The form, and the platter are absolutely outstanding.

If there was a smiley that was on his knees bowing, and saying
'I'm not worthy'... now would be a good time to use him

Great work, yet again.
and excellent stage-by stage photos too....
George - you can 'blame' the VB36 as being responsible, but these, and your other pieces come from the hand and the mind of the creator.
The machine just spins it up.... the craftsmanship, creativity and 'eye', are all yours.

Stunning.
(As per your usual 8) )

Both wonderful shapes, and fantastic timber.

I notice that you do the same as I sometimes do and have shapes and shots of other turnings on the wall behind the lathe for inspiration

Duncan

thanks for all your comments
yes i do have some photos displayed- i have some of john jordan's, melvyn firmagers and liam flynn's work on display at the moment.

Really lovely pieces George as per usual ,I have taken on board your Posting of other peoples work in your workshop. So if you dont mind I will print off a few of yours and others Turnings to see if I can get inspiration on some things I can try, I like the way you and Blister give a blow by blow account of your works. It really works for me and thank you both.
I hope you dont mind me doing this. REgards Boysie.

Well, you're certainly on your usual form, there's only one thing to say:

Fandabiedozie

By the way, what are the things inside the egg (hollowform) I can see one looks like a caliper, and another a tool, but what on earth is the metallic wormy thing?

Cheers,

Dod
