A few months ago I was asked to look at my FIL's old drill. He said that it used to work fine, "but since having the new fuse board fitted in the house it keeps blowing the main fuse". Of course, the "new fuse board" is all MCBs covered by a main RCD....
The drill is plastic and double-insulated, so no earth required. We opened up the plug first, and found that the two-core cable had been wired up to the Live and Earth pins.............
