When making jewellery and keepsake boxes what do you use for the inside lining?
Is it felt or velvet?
Where would be the best place to order some from?
And lastly is the cheap stuff from China any good? (homer)

I use pigskin from ebay seller https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/bel-fred

nothing listed at the moment, but it is worth dropping him a line.
+1
I’ve had several purchases from Fred, all good quality and at a reasonable price.
Message him via eBay and I can bet he’ll have plenty of stock. He even sent me some small samples in advance.
He’s a real character and I haven’t been called “boy” for years!
Custard’s guide is excellent and you could always look up Andrew Crawford (Fine Boxes) for similar advice - and he also used to sell pig suede.

I would not use felt, it makes a box look cheap. 100% wool baize looks very good comes in a wide variety of colours and is easy to use. Beware sellers on ebay, they will call felt baize so if you source it from their make sure you are getting the right stuff. Velvet adds a touch of class to a box but is a little more difficult to use, you cannot have exposed edges as it will fray. Sticking it first to thin card ( and the same goes for baize) will give a nice rolled edge, however with velvet it can leave the warp and weft exposed if you are not using good quality fine short pile. Thin leather especially kid leather works very well. I have never used pigskin but have seen it in boxes and it works very well.
Watermark silk is also quite easy to use and looks very good.

Thank you everyone for the guides and the recommends,
I have just messaged Fred on ebay and will let you know how it goes.

yeah don't use cheap felt, I regret using it on a box of mine, it can easily ruin a box

Fred has messaged me back saying he is away this week and if I contact him next week he will sort something out.
Always a good sign when someone replies the same day (within a few hours) even when on Holiday.
