what are they best used for? I suspect that they're vital for curves etc but are they useful for straight sections?

What sort of grit do they go down to or are they all about stock removal rather than finishing?

Thanks

Miles

Sanding internal convave parts to a line. Mainly fast stock removal and you would finish by hand thereafter. You can do a straight line with one if you make a fence but there's already a stand to build. That's not really what it's designed for. It's a luxury item not an essential one. Many people make do with a good quality bobbin in their drill press for £30.

Thanks for the heads up. I've contacted the seller. Fingers crossed.

Hope you can work something out. I was hovering over the BuY it Now button when I saw this last night, it was the postage (or lack of it) that stopped me.

The problem is the weight at 35kg. There are loads on companies on ebay which will pick up and deliver for £15 ish for less than 30kg but all the quoted I've had are for between £40-45 which is too much. That makes it £225 including adequate insurance and as delivery with Axminster for this item is free it's getting to the price where I would rather spend the extra to get the piece of mind with Axminster direct. Shame really.

for £40-£45 you could drive there yourself. Someone's going to get a bargain.

Exactly but it's about a 12 hour round trip for me and about 16 gallons so that's £72 in petrol.

Bloody hell, Paul, has Christmas come early - AGAIN???

Excellent choice though. I've got the same machine. If you get any trouble, give me a shout. :)

thats the problem with working from home, ebay is just a click away :(

how have you mounted yours olly ? need to save space as ever (which didn't cross my mind until I had hit the 'buy now' button) !

To be honest, Paul, I haven't actually "mounted" mine anywhere yet...! (And I've had it six months now!) I store it lower down and have to lift it up on to my bench each time I want to use it - definitely not something I'd recommend, it's surprisingly heavy! :?

If you can set it on a bench or worktop somewhere, probably next to your Tormek and mortiser (have you used it yet???), thinking back to photo's I've seen of your 'shop...

I doubt you'll ever need to move it as it's not the kind of machine that requires a large surrounding footprint. It's probably a bit too small for any "large" work anyway. So, like a pillar drill, it can probably stay in one place. Only thing is that you may find it a bit high on a 900mm tall bench, unless you're doing really small work.

Do they deliver it to you? That must have cost a bit... :?

Or, did you wrap it nicely just for the UKW unveiling?! :D

To be honest lads, what about the credit crunch? Our kid told me that some dealers are offering two cars for one on the mainland as long as you spend £22000. So why are we deliberating over these deals, when come next summer we, or the people who can afford it, will make the most of the credit crunch?

If we hold our nerve, APTC, Rutland, D&M and all the others will be throwing bargains at us :D :D :D . Just keep the faith.

That's probably true but since most of them incresed their prices by up to 50% on some items even a great discount is unlikely to beat last years standard prices.

nope had a mate who happened to be driving from coventry to swindon on the monday, so banbury was sort of on his way.

Haven't un-wrapped it yet until I have something to use it on (think the wrapping will help to protect it against rust, along with the fact it still has the original grease on the top)
