I think we are confusing two issues here....one is the obvious skill of the person in question...which...has never been in question...I have said as much on that thread...very interesting.
Then the other issues...which is without doubt...the tendency to wind people up, destroy threads, cause various levels of outrage from mild  to downright anger...
These two characteristics are not interlinked, not to be confused and one should simply not be allowed.
I don't know about others, but I come here to have intelligent conversation and chew the cud with people who have the same interest...and that often does not mean the same opinion...but always ends up with a friendly respect for each other's views.
Winding people up on threads should not be excused...for any reason and by anyone...whatever the skill level of that person. Indeed...new and existing members who are just starting out on the road of learning and understanding should be able to partake in a forum without this sort of rubbish.
And just one small other point...just because someone is a member of a forum entitled UK WORKSHOP forum does not mean they should be forced to "make things" and if someone wants to talk about the "sexiness" of tools or jigs or anything workshop related should be allowed to do so without fear of snobbery, isolation or ridicule.
Right...off my chest...now I'm off to *** up a few planes!
