I fancied having a go with the LV LA smoother, just in case I was missing something. I don't think I was. Back to back bevels (or face bevels as they should properly be called).
But I've also given up on the holy grail of finishing absolutely anything, however tricky, with a plane. Possible yes (by the time the bevel is steep enough to become a scraper) but sometimes not worth the effort or the cost of the plane, especially when you can buy a Stanley 80 for next to nowt, or face bevel any plane you like.

"Fancying a go" is (IMHO) a most excellent reason to buy a tool (for me, it's normally the only one).
