Same internal and external durability as more famous brands but better value.

Does the spec look same / close to other more famous brands? Is the thinking that this is made in the same factory and then just differently badged with different base? If so looks like a great value buy. Though of course even if not it could still be a great buy if it performs.

Will be very interested to hear how you find it as I have been toying with buying one of the more famous brands, coincidentally of a very similar colour.

Terry.

ooeer....
A mate of mine (kitchen fitter) turned up with one of these on its a few weeks ago. Brand new, never been used.
He fitted a small flush trim bit and proceeded to edge up a board that he'd laminated - after about three seconds it started whining, then smoking and finally bang!! The clear plastic guard was in about thirty pieces and the router bit had gone - completely. We found a bit of it in the ceiling later on.

I hope yours fares better but be sure to wear full body armour when trying it out for the first time.

Lol. Now there's a product endorsement.

When I clicked through to the item, my first doubt was about the clear plastic base/sole - it doesn't look great.

If the rest of it holds together maybe it could be replaced with something. As with a lot of cheap tools, some tweaking and modding is needed to get them usable.

LOL, I had one of those, cost £9.99, sounded like a bag of bolts in a washing machine.

Almost clicked through on it.....£23 postage.

The seller is in Spain. Makita don't sell that model in the UK, presumably because it would take sales from the RT0700

Surely even at that extra it's got to be worth it? Makita's reputation would no doubt be worth the extra in case of failure after 1 year - which is all you'll get from amazon.

The 'Merry' version has arrived today, I'll give it a whirl over the weekend and be back to report.

Don't know what you had Bob, but the Voom box that came free with it is superb. Paired to my phone with bluetooth it's excellent all my music through a decent speaker now!.

This is the rascal:

The height adjustment is better than my Bosch. The thumbscrew locks it and the knurled knob winds it up and down. To change bits you just loosen the thumbscrew one extra turn and the body slides off the motor. There's no spindle lock so it't the old fashioned 2 spanners job.

Alfie says he likes it.

I gave it a good go on some beech, I used a large roundover bit then a straight cutter to do a hinge chop out, which is what it will largely be used for.

I particularly like the on off switch.

It works, and surprisingly, didn't blow up as soon as I put it under load. The real test will be how long it lasts for I suppose.

I meant the router not the freebie.... :)

I let six 4 inch hinges into oak doors today and it didn't struggle. The bit smoked a little because it wants a rub on the stone, but the router worked perfectly. Happy days.
