I am speaking to you now from the heart of the Metropolis. The beating heart of London has been stilled. The pavements echo to the sounds of silence. The windless leaves in the trees are only matched by the quietness of the empty roads.

Is it an alien invation?

Has some botulism plague struck while we slept?

Has Al-Quaeda finally triumphed?

Nah...bloomin' football.

Just don't forget amongst all this, that the 'new look' England rugby team have their first serious test against Australia tomorrow...

It's actually the most interesting match for some time - both teams are in the process of re-inventing themselves, and England are emphasizing attacking play, for the first time in a while. Meanwhile, after having their scrum demolished by Andrew Sheridan when they last met us, the Ozzies have called up one Rodney Blake - affectionately called 'Rodzilla' - as a prop. He's slimmed down to 20 stone, from the 25 stone he weighed when playing as an Oz schoolboy - gulp!

I'd favour Australia - England are still bedding down together - but it just could go either way... The interest is that England, certainly, are going to play high stakes rugby - they'll either reap the rewards, or leave too many holes for the Ozzies to run through.

Four, or is it five weeks of purgatory for me....the wind up was bad enough, but now its here :p ...did enjoy tho' the Posh and Becks bash on TV, and the Greatest World Cup Goals the other night...'specially that No1 goal...how fast was that ball moving? - Rob

34-3 I thought England looked terrible, the Aussies were rusty in the first half, otherwise I fear the score would have been alot worse.

I'm lamenting tha fact that we did not have the gas to finish off the All Blacks in what was a far more entertaining game of rugby. (OK i'm biased been both Irish and Munster!)
