Is this African Blackwood?

Hi there,
I am wondering if someone can help me identify this piece of wood. I visited my local hardwood store, and they had this log in their skip, which they were going to scrap. I took this home, not knowing what type of wood it was, but I think it may be African Blackwood.
the wood is very very hard and dense, weighs approx 1.1 kg per litre volume, is very dark, almost black, but has some brown and purple in it. I can hardly see the grain, when looking at the end grain.
please have a look at the pictures and let me know if you know what type of wood this is.

Colour, density rather like some posts I acquired from an old casemaker along our street - my best bet for mine so far is kingwood. (but again, the end grain pores on yours look rather different (big pores for a 1.1 density wood) also mine has very straight grain)

defo not blackwood! looks quite a lot like rosewood but could be completely wrong.

Thanks for your replies, guys. I think it must be wenge, as other pics of wenge wood are very very similar, especially the end grain ones.

Wenge isn't usually that heavy.

what are the dimensions? it might be just right for a solid rosewood guitar neck.

Maybe cleaning it up would help. Thicknesser or hand plane and get to work

Took another few pictures, the first one after sanding, the others after planing.
I thought it was wenge, but it’s too heavy for that, so It’s still a mystery for me.
The size of the log is about 100x100x1000mm
anyone any other ideas?

Definitely not wenge and much more likely one of the rosewoods

That is a crazy lump of wood to throw out. I would have defo collected that and put in my wood shed for a later project! Hope you do get the correct ID on that

That is a crazy lump of wood to throw out.

They probably decided as it has got more shakes than a lambs tail, that trying to process it would be problematic at best.
