Is there a way to adjust my sideboard hinge?

Hi All

Sorry if I have posted in the wrong section. I purchased an old sideboard and the door on the opposite side to the photo has dropped slightly so its scraping the wood at the bottom. Is there a way to adjust the hinge or is it a case of taking off and repositioning?

Also is the hinge called a piano hinge?

yes thats a piano hinge. has the wood panel itself dropped? Those hinges are pretty good for holding their position.

Hi Sunnybob. Thanks for the reply. I had another look and the door panel is sloping as you can see from the photo I have added. There is a gap near the hinge but its dragging against the wood opposite the hinge.

The hinge probably hasn't dropped at all. If the door has a loose panel, the door's dropped - or if the door's solid it's probably more likely the whole carcase has gone out of square, which is causing the door to rub.

Use the biggest square that will fit and check the hole that the door covers. If thats square then its just a case of reposition the hinge. If its not square, youll need to go over the whole unit to find where the twist is.

Check the hinge screws are nice and tight- maybe the top ones have came loose a little ?

As the door is a one piece of chipboard type door it won't have sagged, the hinge screws may have loosened and allowed the hinge to slip a bit but I suspect that the side board is not standing straight and if you put a packer under the left hand front leg all will be well. ( it may also make the other door rub LOL )
