can any one tell me if holly is any good for turning

It's fine, if you can dry it without splitting, also keeping it white may be a problem.

Treating with citric acid may aid keeping the wood white.

I've got some big logs of holly from a neighbour's tree. The smaller logs from the branches made some lovely little dishes. Very close grain, and it will turn to a fine, sharp edge. A bit like box and takes threads well.

Lovely fine-grained wood to turn, but it distorts massively while drying and is very, very prone to splitting.

thanks for the quick answers all just had local tree surgeon phone me to tell me he had some holly and a few other bit and bobs for me its great what an emaill to the right person can do
