Will this lock in place i.e. be impossible to take off? Should I put a small washer inbetween?
No and no. HTH :)

Ditto

The tips should lock in place just by pushing them in but are easy to take out again by hand.
The only problem comes when the rubber washer that's on the shaft of the tips splits - then the tip will fall out.
Anyone know what size the washers are?

Sorry, I should have said, the tips screw into place. They don't push in. There are no rubber washers on them.

Ray, can you expand on your answers. Why would the tip not lock in place?

I've updated the link above to point at the right page as well.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave.

I see the middle tip has a hole in it so you can use a bar to remove, do the others have the same?

If you are really worried you could make a thin polythene washer from a milk carton, personally I don't think they will lock up as the head is turning with the tip and there is no twisting force to tighten them together. Also you don't need to screw them up tight, just hand tight will do.
