Insulating garage roof

Soon to start turning the double garage into my new workshop. The roof is a double hip and when the ceiling is plaster-boarded installing the insulation is going to be a right pain the the dooh-dah!

I'm therefore thinking how I can do it before boarding. I've already got a load of earthwool left over from another job so prefer to use that rather than go out and buy extratherm (or similar) which I know would make for an easier job.

Any tricks of the trade for holding mineral wool insulation in place prior to boarding?

Don't roll it between the joist, roll it the other way across the joists.

plastic sheet stapled over rafters, rockwool (or your choice of fibrous insulation) over the top.
and as said above, run it over the rafters instead of between it.

put up a row of sheets then insulate them only problem is last row put several nails into rafters side on to hold insulation in place till sheets on

Plastic netting form a garden centre (or amazon) and staple gun it up to the joists in sections, maybe two rafter widths at a time? Chuck the insulation in on top.

+1 for the netting - I used some breather membrane stapled to the joists.

Thanks all, - I'll use a mixture of those but probably the netting/membrane as that's going to suit the situation best.

I ran 2" masking tape across the underneath of mine at 600 centres, stapled every joist and just laid 100mm rockwool in between the joists

When i did my double hipped extension, i fitted a loft hatch for access and sent my very small and thin nephew in there to do the insulating. Well, he was doing the wiring for me as well, so i made the most of him while he was there.
