I'm making the door bigger on the front of my garage but not sure which manufacturer to use.

The local installers can offer Hormann or SWS Securoglide.

Any opinion on which is best?

Ive got a Hormann sectional up and over its excellent . Also have a roller shutter door by Henderson and its Pants .Both installed in 2006 .

Cheers Bern :D

I've got two of the Hormann insulated doors which have been installed for around seven years and they're excellent.
The only problem I've encountered with them is mice eating their way in through the rubber strip at the bottom

I can’t comment on any other insulated garage doors but I also have a Hormann, the door its self is very good, but the locking mechanism was very flimsy. I completely re-engineered the locking mechanism on the one I have.

I had a Hormann sectional door not a roller shutter in our last house. It was a big door with automatic opening and gave no trouble in the ten years or so before we moved. The insulated door made a big difference to the temperature in the garage over the old up and over door but the fitter went to great lengths to ensure no gaps.

I've also been looking at insulated roller shutter doors......the domestic garage variety I have found to be next to useless when it cones to security. I won't mention any names, but I've tried all the top brands. The showrooms get a little flustered when I take a good heave on the door when it's closed and a little shirty when either it bends or raises. It takes a little taking to calm things down, and suggest that a burglar may be a little more vigorous with their attempts.

Having done the rounds I've now decided to buy an industrial door made of sheet steel. No amount of yanking could raise the door, and they even allowed me a good kick at the sample....no effect. It's not insulated unfortunately, but at least my tools stand a chance of remaining where I last put them!

All the best with your endeavour.

Just had the door installed, it's powder coated and weighs an absolute tonne, which is great as the weight helps to stop it being lifted. The bottom has a rubber gasket and I also had safety beams added as at some point it will revert back to a garage. With an internal canopy and fully fitted / old door removed, two remote controls its a tad over £1300. Almost half of a normal aluminium garage door price, and IMO far more secure. The wife likes it too!

I've added a photo so you can see what It looks like. A bit of tidying up of the woodwork surround to do.
