A gloat really. Here is my youngest grandson chopping his first mortice. He is making himself a bedside table - with a bit of help admittedly but he is doing very well.

Spy the tool cabinet in the background, how does the end of Feb sound for a nosy?

Lovely to get 'em in there playing eh Chris. My youngest daughter used to clean up and make things (remember her bird box?), she started to make a purpleheart jewelllery box but then she hit 13.......

That tool chest is superb and beautiful

Chris - catch 'em young :lol: I might have done it slightly differently though by cramping the wood to the top of the bench and then moving it so the mortice is directly over the bench leg. Your grandson would then have stood at the end of the bench so that he could see if the chisel was upright or skewed. End of the jour, it don't make a lot of difference, the main thing is he's having a go, which is great to see. Be good to see some more WIP pics and a final finished piece...dovetailed drawer perchance? - Rob

I tried it both ways on the bench and Teddy seems to prefer it like this, I hope to persuade him into cutting the mortice in front of him on the next one.
