You may recall my workshop went back at the beginning of the year. However withdrawal symptoms have set in so I am attempting to make another tissue box but this time no machinery only a mitre saw!!!!!!!!!!!

So have ploughed out a rebate along to two insides only, not at ends, and using some London plane, lacewood.

Corners are dovetailed and the first one together with the rebates has taken my I reckon three hours so far, phew!

BTW. I am exhausted, slept the afternoon after that mornings work.

Attatched is a photograph of my remaining timber stock all hardwood and I reckon upto 5cu.ft. If anyone is seriously interested I will create a stock list and sell at half retail selling price, all purchased from established hardwood timber merchants here in the south west. timber dates in the garage approx.2002 to 2013 so should be stable.

Great to see you back in the saddle DW. Good for you. Nothing better than a well earned nap I'd say. :D

If those joints are disgusting I will put decorative veneers at corners and create legs, but I think they will be OK, no tears..

I have now got to plane some hardwood for the top if that goes smoothly I might consider buying a basic small bandsaw (3 or 4" basic depth of cut) so I can use up somwe of that timber stock above!

Any ideas?

OK I went out the workshop this morning and sanded off the fillers to the joints and they most probably will be passable..Also looked out some timber to make the top face and tried a bit of planing with a jack plane (
Record cira 1958 ish) However that is a no go for me these days, half an hour of planing and I could take no more.

So will be looking to some Devonshire friends who offered to prepare me some timber earlier this year.

Just a progress report, a local member has offered to prepare some of my boards so hope to continue the build in about a weeks time. In the meantime I do have one of those benchtop bandsaws from Aldi also due next week.

Well I have got to do something with that 5cuft. of stock of hardwood haven't I ?

Don't panic Beau, I cannot get 5 cu.ft into my bubble car.

Back to the box, the first of the year and I have a bandsaw, a mitre saw Tormek7 and a pillar drill also a small 1/4" router but no table. Plus numerous hand tools accumulated over 60 years.

So glued some 8mm timber to form the set in tissue box lid yesterday and did some early shaping.

a rebate will be necessary at each end (overlength at present) and I intend to saw cut lines (timber cross grain) and and use a hand router or bull nose shoulder plane to create the end rebate and cut off for waste at each end. The sides I will use a plough plane. (I do have the Record combination plane but it badly needs a service, the shoulder cutter needs attention as well.

Your suggestions welcome if I should go about it another way within the next hour or so.

I did the side rebates first, mounted the lid on a length of 3x2" and held the top down using clamps as photograph below. (how do you use and set up for this operation please?)

Then did the end rebates using a scrap straight edge on double sided tape to guide saw cut. (again how would you do that cut)

Lid fitted to carcass and glued and clamped up OK.

Finished the construction but to be cleaned up.

But have now hit another problem, I have strained or pulled a muscle on my right upper arm, it moves but no power at the moment, keeping my fingers crossed only a short term stop.

I got my Record summer catalogue in yesterday and I was able to resist any goodies!!!!!!!!!
