Hi, I am try to work out what the steps are for on this bench grinder and sharpening machine. It was secondhand so don't have the manual. I am thinking there may be perhaps a rest that would sit on the steps to vary the height of the item being ground.

Please take a look at the video and if you have an answer then please let me know.

There should have been a U shaped movable bracket with it. It would sit on the steps at the height needed to support the tool being sharpened so that it would be in line with the top of the stone. the steps are to compensate for the reduction in diameter of the stone as it wears.
