I was hoping for some other ways woodworkers reuse the dust and chips collected in the workshop.

I have tried the logmaker but find they burn quite quick and the briquette maker might last longer but takes quite a while to make them.

I also heard its good for weeds.

Cheers

We are lucky in that we have a woodchip boiler which runs our radiators/hot water so all mine go in there. I sometimes get chippings from local tree surgeons as well, since we need about 12 tons a year.

We are paying about 240€ for 4 stere (cu metre) green oak (chêne vert) and 220€ for beech.

One of the things that I have tried was to put the chippings from the lathe into paper bags, use the vac to suck the air out and compress it a bit, then it burns quite well on our open fire. Failing that some goes on the compost heap.

One of the local swimming pool guys took several bags to use 'cause he said that it was ideal for cleaning up the grouting on the slabs when you are laying them around pools.

We have half a dozen chickens, mine goes into their run, they love it. Kicking it all over the place. Must be the equivelent of sant to them lol

it must be all those vinyards your way, we pay 55 a stere for 2 year dried oak. still, expecting a longer winter than last, so i got 8 steres for this winter.......must finish the insulation!

We only have the open fire for a cosy feature

We can even use the pool in the winter

Cold here? Never much lower than -7.5C!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the replys .

I got a recipe for coal bricks which consists of 4 parts slack,2 saw dust and 1 part sand cement mix.

I can get my son to make these up (for a small fee) and this makes use of some of the sawdust.

cheers

Ian
