I Pad/Smart TV

Hi,

Would anyone know if you can "pair up" or connect an I Pad to a smart TV which has the internet built in, or do you need that Apple TV box?

Don't think you can but thought I would double check!

I think it's basically the same thing, what I'm trying to do is wireless connect the I Pad to the TV.

I have (or should say the mrs has) an Ipad and a panasonic viera tv and I can view pictures and movies that are on the ipad on the tv via an app. (8player lite, and arcMC lite) I can also throw films that are stored on my server to the tv using Sitecom Media controller (on the Ipad) or view them on the ipad. all over the wireless network (DLNA)

Is it just a case of going to the app store and download one of these apps and this will link them up? (sorry I'm no too technical on these things)

Reading (and trying to comprehend) this thread I just hope our elderly plasma SCART enabled TV keeps going for a whole lot longer ! When/if I ever have to replace it and the Sony surround system then for the first time in my life I think it might be a case of GALMI.
