No it has a steel insert. I have made a zero clearance insert with some plyboard. I used a flush trim bit in my router to copy the shape of the insert. The I lowered the blade below the table, put the insert in place, placed a bit of weight arount the edges. I switched the saw on and then slowely raised the blade through the insert. 5 minute job.

It is much better, as with the original insert, small offcuts fell down beside the blade. They are not easy to get out.

martlewis,

I would have thought that changing an arbor to fit a dado would cause other problems.

I am sure your right. It was just a thought. I would not do it even if I could because the SIP 3 year warranty would surely go down the pan.

Cheers

Mike

Good, a replaceable insert is important in my opinion.

I'm sure I'll survive without the dado set, I just seem to spend ages with a router trying to get dados the right width. The cutter never seems to be the same width as the stock :(

Ok perhaps it does infringe warranty. I've looked several times at mine and I've seen nothing that would actually stop a longer arbour, and on the plus side it could be machined to 30mm instead of the stupid 1".

I thinks I'll go and get a couple of dozen made up and sell them on Ebay :)

Put my name down for the first one before u sell them all on ebay :D

Seriously, if someone did it i think it would sell real well.

I said it rather tongue in cheek, but now I'm being serious. Who else would be interested in one?

How much longer do you think 25mm? 30mm ? or more?

I was also kidding but if you do them I will definately be up for upsetting a few on here by buying on and a "dado" set. Definately will buy here mate :)

Not sure on the arbor length, depends really how wide a set is.
