Hello all

Well as per a few threads below this one i purchased a DeWalt biscuit joiner and a pack of faithfull biscuits on a sale at amazon..
I currently don't have a biscuit joiner or anything like it.
My plan was the above DeWalt joiner, Heap of biscuits and a kreg k5 with hd kreg and some kreg clams, screws etc.

THEN.....
I did some research on festool domino and i just had to have one :( They sound great, alot stronger joins and good for alignment.
I know they are expensive but from what i can make out i wont really need any of the above so will return or sell on the dewalt biscuit joiner.
The kreg with jigs and vices etc and the DeWalt would have cost me about £300 so i just thought bugger it why not just get a domino xl with the shims and adapter from the USA so i can also do the smaller domino df500 stuff.
Granted the domino xl 700 is about £750 but really it's only £400 more than the above kit and i'd no doubt end up getting one in a few months anyway.

So when i ordered the shims and adapter from the USA and am now on the hunt for a xl700 with tenons!

I don't know why i'm telling you all this i think i just need some reassurance i done the right thing on my impulse buy lol!

Merry Christmas to all :) :ho2

Cheers

personally, I would consider whether you need the extra size of the XL. If you dont, the smaller domino is much more suited to furniture.

However, i think you have made a good choice with the Domino idea.

This video fueled my decision for the 700.

I'd like to use it for making big heavy garden furniture, Beds for the house etc
But with the adapter i could use it also for smaller projects and joining wood planks for table tops etc.
I just couldn't not afford buying both the 5 and 700. And i'm a big strong boy anyway :) I'm used to heavy machinery for many hours at a time with my day job. Cutting hedges and holding the big stihl petrol trimmer or chainsawing firewood to sell etc.

Looks like you are having an early Christmas James. Look forward to seeing all the furniture that's about to come out of your shop.

I've got a DF500 love it to bits, I must admit that Dewalt offer was a good one for the biscuit jointer, might be worth asking if anyone wants it on here for the cost price as it is now only available for the dearer (normal price).

If I was not buying a Planer/Thicknesser I would be putting that money to a DF700XL as I can definitely see the use it can bring (and I just like buying toys, I mean tools).

I had a festool impulse buy last week. I was browsing eBay and found the pdc18 drill sets for £292.50 Inc delivery. Absolute bargain so ended up buying one. Posted the deal on the festool owners group and before you know it they sold over 50 of them.

I've had the small domino a couple of years now , great tool

Well wife just got home from work, told her of my new "plan" and she's....... HAPPY for me! :)

Now a night of searching for best prices and youtube videos coming up.

One thing we decided though is we shall sell the hegner scroll saw we went halfers on last year as she never really had the chance to use it so that will pay for a bit of it as well :)

James.

Good idea on the Domino, but you would do well to keep the Kreg and the biscuit joiner. You will find a use for them .
Reserve the Domino for the better jobs, if you don't want to use hand-tools. The BJ and Kreg are fine for those quick jobs, such as a 'rustic' seat outside of the allotment shed! Or a 'Kreg-Keg-Krate' (Steve Ramsey on YouTube) for your bevies.

Haven't heard the expression 'Halfers' or 'Halvers' for a long. long time!

FGHTQ!
