I think it is quite possible to be a member of both forums and get along with everybody. There are quite a few members who make positive contributions on both forums. I dont really get the need to push this us and them attitude all the time.

Yes, I agree, well said. I'd probably insert "nearly" before everybody, just because otherwise it is a bit too John Lennon to be realistic, and Smudge has a point (albeit one which applies to both forums in varying degrees at different times).

I shouldn't have taken Trim's bait!

Easy there tiger, there was no bait laid!

Merely an observation which I have made, rightly or wrongly. I am happy to admit that there are plenty of decent people on both sides.

I was just tired and peeved with the initial berating of the OP which I thought was extremely ill handled.

I'll leave it there as I have no desire to be labelled a troll and hope that my history here backs that up...

Oh, I didn't mean you were trolling, just that I should have ignored the OT snipe.

Usually these sort of rules are there to allow the mods to legitimately remove spammers and people looking to promote tinpot businesses that none of us are interested in, or for sale items that are totally unrelated to woodworking etc.

On this occasion somebody is looking to sell something decent, 100% related to the forum and for a reasonable price. This could very well benefit an established member of the forum. The forum is here for the members benefit, so if this can benefit a member then what's the big problem?

As somebody once said "Rules are for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools." Let's be guided as opposed to wasting our time nitpicking.

BTW I'm new here as well, so this has no doubt been discussed many times, but why isn't there a for sale section. There are plenty of for sale posts after all ...

Cheers CB

Heggzackerley. The reception he got from some quarters was bizarre. I wonder if the reaction would have been the same had he been offering something on their wanted list?

to be fair it was only one member who really laid into him - surely if hes breaking the rules the way to go is to just report it to the mods and let them take whatever action they see fit (quite likely none in this case) posting **** like this

doesnt exactly show ukw in a good light , or the "member" (in all senses of the word) who posted it.

doesnt

O.K. I apologise for what I said . No excuse really, I had just received a nasty P.M from the O.P. And to be quite honest I still don`t believe half of what he has said. He won`t even say who told him about UKW.

Koolwabbit

Still think it`s time for a "For Sale" section though.

I have to be honest and confess that when I first read the original posting I thought 'You Cheeky Git' - 'only joined so I could sell this' !!. At least he was being honest I suppose?
But then having thought about it for a bit I decided 'why not' if it benefits an established, or even new, forum member?
So although he 'bent' the rules, and he isn't the first to do so by any means, I think allowing such posts has more benefits than drawbacks.
The ultimate decision though is, as you say, in the hands of the mods so it might be better to PM them first and ask permission.

But he wasn`t being honest was he ?
Initially he wanted a guide price, that was given, then it was suggested he sell on Ebay. He then said he doesn`t use Ebay and would have to sell at a bootfair. WHERE WAS HE INTENDING TO SELL IF NOT ON HERe ???

Oh by the way it was his first post not his fourth as I thought.

No problem. Apology accepted. Why did the OP decide to attack you out of the blue?

I also think you may need to check you watch.

if this is what you call a nasty PM, your comment on a open forum would amount to gross insult.

I openly stated that i only joined to get info and a price for the afore mentioned item,

and as for ebay i don't do ebay as i have no idea how it all works IE: things like paypal etc, all i simply wanted to do was find some info/price guide so that we had an idea of just how much it was worth to someone,

I also feel that had a moderator intervened i would have been informed politely of how things should go on the forum, but 1 member took it upon himself to have a go,(not really the right thin to do on a open forum for both you and the forum its self)

SO TO YOU i apologize in person on an open forum for both the post and that all nasty PM i sent you,

to all the others on the site thank you for your patients and some good advice, buy the way the member of the forum who informed me of where i could possibly get the above advice is the one we got the lathe from and it is not for me to pass on his name without his authorization.

kindest regards and apologies to all concerned.

I think you've qualified to become an "established" member.

If you wanted to offer the lathe for sale via the forum you have my blessing (albeit only as a humble "member").

Likewise Matt.

Perhaps a mod' would like to pick up and decide either way. Don't see anybody loses, far from it !

Cheers, Paul :D

I second (oops Paul got in there before me) so I third that. Just so Bob does not send me such a nasty pm "A grumpy old git" My god the nastiness, the deformation of character, the horror of it all. He really must be sick of mind to come up with that

By the way Bob if the Mods do allow it, and it is down to them not us, put it up for sale on the turning forum too.

Cheers

Mike

Bob - you are "a grumpy old man" ?? you fit in fine here.
You were honest from post one and I thought the bend of the rulers was acceptable given your words.

Make no mistake Koolrabbit will be flogged for his rudeness

I agree (as a humble nobody) that your post should stay.
