i have this for sale and needed to ask some advice please

sorry to anyone who i may have offended,

but the reason for sale is simple, its owner passed away just three months ago and the family business is up for sale and we just wanted it to go to someone who would use it.

I don't use ebay, but i was directed here by a good friend that thought it would be the proper place to advertise it and get a good price as well as find it a good home.


I will withdraw the thread and hereby ask the Moderators to remove it and my account, as it seems some have lost not just a dummy but the teddy from their pram too.

it was never meant as a post to bend the rules or deceive anyone, but rather a simple way of recovering a bit of cash for what is a rather nice bit of kit.

thank you all for your help and best wishes to those that need to find the bits missing from the pram.

But I am totally embarrassed by his attitude in his other post, because whether or not you intend to hang about that is no way to treat anyone. At least you were honest enough to state the only reason you had joined.

It is probably a good idea if the moderators do as you ask and remove the whole thread.

Believe me Paul I do not know how I held back :roll: I can fully understand why the rule is there, otherwise we would have any Tom, Dick and Harry joining just to get rid of their unwanted gear. But a little common decency in the way we tell them about the rules does not hurt.

sadly the person who pointed me to the forum has left it (he also had a few problems on the forum ) but was kind enough to pass on the info.

I don't do the rip off eBay thing, so it looks like i will have to drag it to a few boot sales when and if the weather gets better,

Also best to put up the items seperately to maximise value.

People tend to expect you to throw in the accessories for next to nothing with the lathe, but actually they can be worth quite a lot in themselves.

There is a lot of it here recently, not entirely sure why though, but I know of some stuff on the chat the other day between various member over there commenting on people over here calling them all the names under the sun and getting ridiculously personal so I'm going to have to disagree with you there Jake.

I think the difference is that we very rarely mention 'over there', but they seem to love talking about us. I do find that really odd. Especially when they come back and act like normal. Strange behaviour. It's a shame because there are some people over there that I really respect.

Didn't see it myself, someone told me the other day what they had seen written.

If I'd have witnessed it myself I would have, but to be honest I don't have the time or inclination to hang around just to pick up on this kind of dung.

I am conscious that neither of us know anything about the other (well very little) so fyi I am neither sensitive or faint of heart, but from what I have been told the conversation was just plain nasty, very personal and puerile.

And back to me......

There are pineapples on both forums, as there are on any forum, neither forum is perfect.
There is a lot of Trade Banter/Slagging on the WoodworkUK forum and there is a lot of Tool Collecting/Polishing on here. There is nothing so wrong with either 'standpoint' that I can't live with. The few that take it all so seriously/personally are best ignored.
Both have something to offer and both are very good resources for woodworkers, both trade and hobby. Both have some very knowledgeable and skilled members.
There will always be digs, from both sides, and an 'Us and Them' attitude, again on both sides.
So why not just accept that and move on?

NB I may have somewhat overused 'both' in this message?

Just a quick comment on this thread.

When I first saw it I thought, this is a cheeky chappie getting around the rules. Nothing wrong with that IMHO.

Having said that I was recently in the same boat as the OP and couldn't find a "for sale" section either and felt that the "rule" (5.something) was ambiguous as it didn't mention wanted ads (that what I was looking to post) or a specific number of posts.
I emailed ([email protected]) asking for clarification but received no reply so I went ahead and posted anyway, successfully I'm happy to say.

Anyway it's not a bad forum compared to the other one, main difference to me is that it moves along very fast which is a bit disconcerting for an old duffer like me. Maybe slightly more negative mentions of this forum but intolerant posters seem evenly spread.

That's enough from me, just a friendly and hopefully helpful comment.

I think it is quite possible to be a member of both forums and get along with everybody. There are quite a few members who make positive contributions on both forums. I dont really get the need to push this us and them attitude all the time.
