I have a question

Hi All

Not sure if this is the place to post this but

I have a question "In your humble opinion what is the best router you've used in a router table"? and i don't mean the best router in a table you've tried at a store or at a woodworking show, but the best you've used under actual woodworking conditions

Orange CMT thingy, which is basically the same as Brad, but a different colour and cheaper. Or of course an Elu 177e which again is the same as both of them.

Trend T11, got two, one permanently in a table fitted with a xteme xtension, it has been in the table for over a year now, I suppose I ought get it out and give it a clean, I've not looked at it since that day it was put in and it has done a fair few hours of work.

No manufacturer will admit it but all the routers mentioned above are the same apart from minor points.

Take your pick there all good, I've got the CMT's and 625's, no difference.

Freud 2000e , great router ,micro adjustment and a great fence if you want a bit of versatility.

Hitachi MV12 in my table, can't fault it. Also used to have the De Walt 625 and that is as good. Used a Power Pro one but it was pants.

A few years ago I would have agreed with the large de Walt types but the designers never thought about table use. It is debatable whether they thought about function at all, especially dust extraction, bit changing and plunge below the baseplate.

You may very well be aware that FWW recently did a test of routers for tables. The Triton 2 1/4 came out best on test.
Googling on "Triton" in SMC gives a number of user experiences, some good, one or two more mixed.

Personally i have a triton but only for hand held work but i have 1/2 inch colleted router clone of some make in my large free standing router table, of which i'm looking to upgrade at some time.But i have to be careful in my choice because i have a routerlift installed so the router is permantly plunged fully. In the small desk top table i have theres a small 1/4 inch router.
I also have an experimental tilting router table of which only has cheap thing in it because the table was only built to see if a tilting router table cauld be made to work, so i didn't want to put an expensive router in that

But as for my large table it seams like the trend seams like a good option to

Triton. No doubt at all.

I have owned and used a Triton, a couple of B&Q 1/2" routers, a Trend T5 and a Porter Cable 7520 2HP and these have been in a table at once time or another.

No contest at all - triton is great in the table but not great hand-held.

I also have Trend T11 which is great hand-held, and looks like it would be good in a table. However, i would buy the Triton every time for table use.
