Hi All

Just wanted to post a new message to say that i'm back and have found a new home (not a flat) and will be taking up the hobby again mixed with tons of DIY.

I bought a new property a few weeks back and have recently moved in. The garden has a nice hard-standing area at the bottom that will allow me to build a 4.5m x 6m workshop/garage so I can get back into the hobby.

Heres a link to a gallery of the place, the previous owner decorated almost every room, but the quality is a little lacking and no accounting for taste, so i've got to completely re-decorate each room - which surprisingly i'm looking forward to:

I also wanted to thank everyone who participated in my sale earlier this year, it all really helped me to get my self sorted, and I hope the tools are as useful to you as they were to me!

Welcome back. Lilac walls with royal blue skirting boards? Nice. cough cough.

Hope you get back into it in no time!

We too are doing up a place but the "decorating" bug is already wearing thin, and I've not even finished two rooms!

Adam

Adam, the DIY is something that if I plan for it, I can end up enjoying it, but I can see how it can get tiring. I tried to put up some blind header rails last night, but was foiled by the lintel, so I now have a great excuse to buy another tool - a Black & Decker SDS Drill !! So there are some positives :)

The door I like, the walls, well, not exactly my fashion.

Hi BB
Nice to hear you're back in action!
Great colour scheme, don't change a thing. Well that's what my daughter says
Best regards
Philly :D

Hi BB

Glad to see you got sorted.

The moving in thing must be catching! I moved 4 weeks ago and have the same situationas yourself and Adam - a mountain of re-decorating - though i feel better having read:

We too are doing up a place but the "decorating" bug is already wearing thin, and I've not even finished two rooms!
I got to the end of room 2 before I got fed up

luckily I now need to make a bed so I get to start sorting out the workshop (The DIY and decorating is fine by me, the house came with a 600 sq foot workshop :p ) )

I think I'll have to have a word with philly - he seemed to be up and running in his new workshop within hours of moving!

Best of luck with the new house, looks good in the photos - well except for the colour scheme perhaps

Hi guy's, thanks for all the welcomes, much appreciated :)

The 'disaster wall' as I like to call it is in fact in the master bedroom, so I have had to put up with it since moving in, however, it's the third room on the 'to do' list, so shouldn't be long before it get banished beneath 3 coats of Basecoat.

Just got the lounge and office to sort first though ;( then after the master bedroom, the spare room, then the kitchen, then the garden, and maybe just maybe i'll have time this year to start the build of the workshop :)

In the meantime, what are other memebers suggestions for setting up a usable outside workshop in the meantime?

BB,
nice to see you back.

If that decor is the only problem you've done well.

Usable outside workshop? Depends what you are going to put in it and how you intend to work.
With tha open area at the back of the graden I guess it will need to be secure. If you're are going to load it with power tools & loads of timber then it will need to be watertight and have the humidity controlled. Personaly I'd be inclined to wait and built it right and build it once. Are any of those bedrooms "spare" for the odd bit of woodwork in the meantime?

Wizer tends to get quite a lot done working al fresco

I have a very small third bedroom that we currently don't have a use for (The babies room in the photographs). I could perhaps put a small workbench in there, handtools only though due to the noise - i'm terraced. I'll have to put some thought to it.

With regards the property, the decorating is mostly all that needs doing, however there are some small structural things to do, but nothing major, it's an exciting project though :)

Would love to hear from Wizer and his al-fresco woodworking solutions.

welcome back Byron.

Solutions? hmm not sure if I really have any tbh. I'm sure you can come up with a temporary\fold away work bench. The weather is certainly a problem, maybe a cheap gazebo could help there. I wouldn't rely on it as a long term thing tho, working outdoors is frustrating because at the end of the day you have to pack everything away again. I guess the difference is that your house is work in progress whereas our's is finished and I get in trouble even if I leave a screwdriver out! ](*,) As you know I am a fan of the Triton gear and their SuperJaws and Multistand are both useful al-fresco items. IIRC you have a compact saw table? Well that should be prety mobile. Will your budget stretch to a shed to accomodate you for a few months?

wizer ........

I got the triton compact saw table when Byron was selling of some of his kit ......... mind you you can't get more mobile that a hand saw

Welcome back, Byron.
The roller stands are doing great!
I hope you enjoy the decorating for a while. I hate painting and stuff like that!
Al fresco woodworking? Not sure I can help there, but glad to hear you have a place with potential.
Cheers.

Byron, Pleased to hear you have solved your earlier problems, why don't you do a Richard Branson and offer to buy back !!!!!!!!!!!

Wizer,

I got rid of the triton kit, but it was quite useful, but to be honest I think I might invest in a 'proper' table saw. I do have a small shed at the end of the garden that I can store it in, i'll have to look into it all in more detail when I get my budget set - moving in has almost wiped me out!

Devonwoody - The buy back would be interesting, but I'm seeing this as a way of buying new tools, we all have to give in to shiny new tool lust every now and then, I played with a nice festool a few days ago - nice bit of kit, and the Mrs wants me to make a new kitchen, so instant justifcation!!
