Does anyone know where I can get a short (anything from 3ft down to a foot) length of 10mm (or similar) of M2 steel from? I'd like to make a turning tool from it.

Silver steel- which what I've used for turning chisels. Easy to heat treat and harden.

I was going to suggest Ashley Iles but their website seems to be down

Although not mentioned on their website, they often sell HSS blanks at the various woodturng shows but as I haven't been able to get to any, I emailed them to see if they would supply me by post. Instead of 4 blanks I received (after being contacted to see if it was ok) 2 round skews & 2 three point tools for the price of the blanks.
