I just mark out the taper using a marking gauge and either saw and plane or simply plane the waste.
However, on another forum in the past couple days, Harry Strasil showed his shooting board type of jig for tapering. This would be pretty good for ensuring each tapered item is the same.
another possibility is to make a jig slightly over the width of the legs,
with two uprights, the height of the legs, so its a u shape.
then what you can do is put a small spacer at the end of the jig so it is tilted the amount you want. then just run a plane at an angle along the jig
to get the shape you want. as mike stated, start at the far end, and
finish off with full strokes and the plane running on the supports.
must learn to use sketch up to show what i want.
